Paper - Television and Decline of Family Unit
Television is a type of mass media
that transformed connections. Regrettably, it has transformed
us, too. It has developed to take up our free time more than any
other type of entertainment. It has encompassed our lives to the
degree that we frequently think of it as benevolent, if we think
concerning it at all. Many of us will wake and sleep to the buzz
of the TV. We will frequently keep the TV on while we perform
other everyday jobs, even if we are not really paying notice to
it.
Our children are taught from us to employ the TV to take up
their leisure time. Positively, TV has its worth -- educational
programming and news and weather broadcasts. Television, on the
other hand, has been revealed to endorse an inactive life style
and share of time that could be utilized in more creative
actions. It presents fake views of life in the lack of a
parental value position and batters children with advertising.
Shows that portray situations representing real life situations
can be important teaching tools, given that the TV watcher is in
the attendance of an adult who assists him or her understand
what (s)he sees. Since the subjects presented on TV permeate
society, our children will feel them sooner or later. Letting a
child watch TV unaccompanied, or using the TV as a baby sitter,
provides free rein to your child to study what the TV writers
think significant in the deficiency of your value set.

Many psychological studies have established that parents can
have the main authority on their child’s emergent values. The
parent need only be there to state these principles by message
and instance. The craving to attract audiences for the benefit
of paying sponsors taints the principles supported by
television. Risk, sex, violence and debate are what sell.
Throughout commercials, you can take the chance to evaluate with
your child the educational or nutritional payback (or lack
thereof) of the advertised produces.
We hearten our children to implement and eat a healthy diet.
Though some creative people have turned up with machinery that
allows adults to walk a treadmill or pedal a stationary bicycle
while watching TV or a videotape, our young children watch TV
without these distractions. Children should utilize their time
in more imaginative or educational actions as compare to sitting
in front of the television. What can the parents do to reduce
the negative force of TV on our children at the same time still
permitting them to gain the benefits?
One way is to schedule standard times to go outdoors with your
child to get work out. Also plan other demanding activities:
songs, drawing, coloring and puzzles are all amusing and
instructive for a toddler. Stores that trade educational toys
and games have their wares separated by age to make it simple
for parents to choose suitable materials for their child.
-Libraries frequently have a story time when readers gift
selected books for children. Play dough, clay, finger paints and
bathtub water play all help children improve their
harmonization, fine motor skills and imagination. Role-playing
with toy vehicles and dolls lets children communicate
themselves. Older children can become occupied in sports, clubs,
homework cooperatives, and baby-sitting or community service
projects. Support your child to gain from TV what is essential
and leave the rest. Control TV watching to a highest of 1 hour
per day, and that also in your presence. Introduce a routine of
relating to your child in other debates that have more
instructive and developmental worth. You not only discover an
improvement in your but your family life will also be more
worthwhile.
Only 60 years back, television was
considered as an unidentified interest. TV was black and white
indistinct figures on a screen so minute that they were barely
visible. Nowadays, that inquisitiveness has become a steady
friend to many, including our children. The TV has all but
substituted the printed page. TV programs give an account of the
news and weather, influence us to purchase certain products, and
also offer programs that exalt violence. TV has influenced our
family value system in both positive and negative means.
TV violence has been connected to the violent actions in
children, though it is not apparent how much of an influence TV
violence really has. This is for the reason that children most
affected by TV violence are those previously at threat for
violent conduct. Other characteristics and family issues may be
the other reason for violent actions. Children who are already
violent or have a destructive nature are fascinated by and are
inclined to watch more brutal TV.

Some kids become "insensitive" to the dismay of violence and
become less responsive to the hurt and anguish of others. They
may slowly recognize violence as a method to resolve troubles.
They may copy the aggression they view on TV and act in violent
or damaging behavior toward others. In addition, they may become
more afraid of the world around them. Families can
construct on their strengths by functioning together to become
"clever" TV viewers. Every activity can help strengthen your
value system through open statement of each other’s remarks. Do
programs presenting violence advertise products frequently used
by families? Advertising causes us to use goods more frequently.
Violence on TV gets our concentration and continues our
watching. Adults can control the method TV influences children
by offering direction and restrictions on what they observe.
After all there is a family life if all its members stay in
touch with each other. With the Television taking up all the
time, there is no spare time left amongst the members for any
worthwhile communication. As a result the family unit is ripped
apart and the negative influence of media increases even more
with the lack of support and human relations.
Children have unformed ideas and notions, therefore they are
even more influenced by what goes around on television. When
these kids grow older they become so accustomed to filling up
their leisure time with TV that all family values are lost and
they have nothing to extend to their children except TV values.
Therefore it is imperative to have scheduled TV time and
regulated children viewer ship in order to have a healthier and
more nurturing family life. If these measures are not adopted
then the decline of the family unit will continue and even
deteriorate with time. Now is the time to take action and
salvage whatever is left of the family unit.
