Paper - Going on Summer Camp
Life is full of decisions that
need to be made. Some easy, some difficult. Each day we make
many choices that affect our lives in different ways. It could
be anything as simple as deciding what to eat to deciding where
to spend your summer vacation. If I were to have a choice
between going to Mexico over the summer, which I’ve never been
to, or going to Young Life camp, for the 2nd year in a row, I
would definitely find myself in a tight spot.

The young life camp is a unique experience in itself. You get to
interact with people from different age groups and different
cultural backgrounds. There is a vast treasure of exposure and
experience that one can benefit from. All the teenagers bring in
their diversity to learn and benefit from each other’s
experiences. There is camaraderie that can turn into friendship
that may last a lifetime. Then there is the informal and fun
atmosphere of camping. There are so many activities to enjoy.
The freedom and independence are exhilarating. The experience of
living on your own yet being able to depend on the support and
friendship is quite different. There are also counselors who
help you get through teenage issues that your parents or
teachers might not be able to help you with. Mexico on the other
hand is experiencing an entirely different culture and
civilization. It offers a rich and refreshing. It is a sudden
departure from a developed country to a third world country. The
social structure is also very different. There is a lot of
importance on family and blood relations. There is a certain
loyalty and support expected from friends and peers. There is
also a vast treasure of cultural heritage that offers aesthetic
pleasure. The history of Mexico has many influences and they all
reflect in its architecture.

The Mexican household has a joint family system. Living
conditions differ among the different types of households. In
most instances, the budget may be separate but they will still
be living under the same roof. Other household members can
comprise of out-of-town relatives, fellow townsmen, and even
permanent gusts. There is warmth to be felt that is lacking in
the American fast paced life.
Despite economic conditions human relations continue to be the
most important in Mexican society. I think I would prefer to go
to Mexico because it would be a different experience. I have
gone camping last year. So it might be interesting to do
something different this year. After all it’s diversity that
adds spice to life. And maybe then I could share my experience
at the Young Life Camp the next year. Now that should interest
everybody at the camp.
