Free Term Paper - University and College Admission Essay

I am interested in Law, and critical issues like health care, and civil rights, also interest me. I want to study these subjects and pursue a career based on these interests. I have decided to take political science as a major, because of the reason that I heard that some of the international students work illegally while enrolled in universities of America, and still get minimum wages, while some legal residents with language barrier earn below minimum wage.

My friend, Steven Chao, is a new immigrant. He came to the United State about three years ago with his parents. Both of his parents work for a Chinese clothing factory in Los Angeles, even though they are legal residents, his parents get paid below the minimum wage. His mom sews clothing for the company and she gets the money by how many items she finishes. Her company doesn’t provide any insurance for the workers, and they don’t even pay the taxes for the employees. His dad’s situation is a little bit better because he knows English slightly; he helps the company in distinguishing different boxes that comes in the factory every day. His dad works over time, but only gets paid as a part-time. When I asked him why his parents couldn’t switch jobs, he said it’s not that easy as I thought because they can't speak English. I felt so angry about this situation because I used to believe that since they came here as residents, they have the right to be protected under the law. I felt that there must be a lot of immigrants actually living in this kind of environment without knowing where or whom to ask for help.

I truly wish that there is something I can do to help the new immigrants, this being the main reason to study Political Science. As Political science is an excellent liberal arts major for students interested in learning how groups of people govern themselves, how policies are made, and how we can improve our government policies at the local, state, national, and international levels.

A political science major prepares students for jobs in almost any field, from business to law to research, Political science training also provides valuable preparation for participating in community organizations, electoral politics, movements on behalf of specific policies, or even seeking legal rights for new immigrants who are at disadvantage because of their inability to speak English language. Law is a common route for many political science majors; it is one of the best undergraduate majors for students who want to go law school because of its emphasis on conceptual thinking and public affairs.
