Role of Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale had a desire for a career in medicine,
which led her to study nursing. She criticized the disgraceful
health conditions and contributed a lot for the improvement of
British Military Hospitals. In 1960 she raised a good sum of
money and used it to establish the Nightingale school and home
for Nurses at St. Thomas Hospital. During her time is Sacutari;
she collected data and systematized record keeping practice. She
advocated women rights and argued strongly for the removal of
restrictions that prevented women from having careers.
Due to her tireless efforts, she created a strong foundation for
the nursing profession. Even today, young nurses are gaining
from what she advocated and contributed to this profession.
